Placements will commerce at the start of the Academic Year in September or the start of Semester 2 after the Chinese New Year, in January.
Much bureaucracy is involved and the overall process can take up to 6 months. Consequently to start at the beginning of the academic year in September (which is what universities prefer), you will need to apply by the end of February of that year. To start in Semester 2, you would need to apply by end of the June of the previous year. Very occasionally, universities have last minute requirements, for example if they were let down by someone at the last minut, so even if you have missed the deadline it's still worth applying just in case.
